Experience the reservoirs and natural beauty of the Peak District National Park without ever leaving the City boundaries. Here are a couple of options to get you started...
Redmires Reservoirs
If you find yourself on a clear, fresh winter day you might think to yourself that today would be a good day to go for a bike ride. Situated within the boundaries of the City are the beautiful Redmires Reservoirs, one of many to feature in England’s oldest national park.
From the City Centre, you are looking at a ride of about an hour to get to them, and once you are there you can expect to see great views of the 3 staggered reservoirs.
If you take the scenic route back, you can head down past Forge Dam park towards Endcliffe and finish off with a takeaway coffee from many of the places open on Sharrow Vale road.
Damflask & Agden Reservoirs
If you want to head more to the north of the city, again lying both within the Peak District and the City limits, Damflask Reservoir allows you to run or walk around the perimeter of the water amongst the woodland.
You would be best driving here, and you can park up no problem on the bridge of the dam. This is a great way to kill a couple of hours, get outside and see a part of the City you might never think of if you weren’t having to find alternatives due to lockdown!
Drive a further 5 minutes up the road to find yourself in Bradfield, a picturesque village you wouldn’t believe was sat within the City limits. With its pristine bowling green, country pubs and another reservoir, Agden, that you can walk around it is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and get your steps in.
With 1/3 of the City falling inside the country’s oldest National Park, you never have to travel far to experience some of the best scenery the UK has to offer.
