West One ‘furry excited’ to support Children’s Hospital Bears of Sheffield initiative

We’re bear-y excited to sponsor of The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Bears of Sheffield initiative and can’t wait to get our paws on our very own sculpture!

Bears of Sheffield is the latest fundraising campaign launched by The Children’s Hospital Charity and will be raising vital funds to transform the Cancer and Leukaemia Ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The ward treats children with cancer and blood disorders from babies through to 19-year olds from South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and as far south as Northampton.

Whilst the care patients receive on the ward is world-class, the facilities need our help, which is why funds raised will help improve the space for both patients and families.

The campaign– a follow-up to the charity’s ‘Herd of Sheffield’ initiative which raised an unbelievable £610,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity in 2016 – will be coming to the steel city in July this year.

There will be 60 Big Bears designed by local, regional and national artists and 100 Little Bears designed by schools across the region.

Each Big Bear is being individually designed both by undiscovered and well-known artists before being selected by businesses across the city which have chosen to sponsor one of the 7ft sculptures.

And at West One, we’re ‘furry’ excited to have pledged our support for the scheme and look forward to picking our design in April.

Andrea Marsden, Head of Residential at West One Student Accommodation, said: “We’re really excited to be involved in the Bears of Sheffield initiative, which is raising vital funds for a fantastic cause.

“Corporate social responsibility is a big part of our core company ethos here at West One Student Accommodation – and initiatives such as this are crucial in raising awareness of the amazing work which The Children’s Hospital Charity does every day.

“People and communities in Sheffield are collectively so powerful and can achieve a huge amount, which was shown with the Herd of Sheffield initiative when it raised more than half a million pounds in 2016!

“The Children’s Hospital Charity has come to the aid of so many people in the region. Everyone seems to know someone in some capacity who has had the need of The Children’s Hospital Charity.

“We can’t wait to get started on all the publicity initiatives and ideas – our team is really excited to get going!”

Tchad Western, Corporate Partnerships Manager at the charity said: “The Bears of Sheffield is all about uniting communities, bringing the city together and making our mark.

"This can only be done with the incredible support of well-known businesses such as West One, every sponsor helps us reach out to another audience and get our messages out there.

"The business community is integral to making big charity initiatives like the Bears of Sheffield a success as it holds so much power both individually and collectively within our community and we are so grateful for everyone’s support.

“I’m confident that the Bears of Sheffield will be even bigger and better than the Herd of Sheffield and will help to make what seems like the most harrowing times for families, that little bit better.”
