Stay motivated in the new semester

It can be hard to stay motivated and not feel overwhelmed by work at the beginning of a new semester.

Whether you are studying for your Undergraduate Degree, Master’s or PhD, we’ve collated our top tips on how to be productive in 2025.

  1. Set yourself achievable goals

A great starting point to achieving your goals is to be realistic with your expectations. If you break down your overall goal into smaller steps, this can help you assess how manageable your workload is and you can begin to create a routine that works for you. By setting yourself daily goals and putting your focus on completing these rather than the overall task at hand, you will avoid feeling overwhelmed and start to see your goals being ticked off.

  1. Create a study routine

Do you like to start your day ticking off your to-do list? Or do you prefer to start studying in the evening? Now you’ve set out your goals, you need to decide on a study routine that works for you and your working style.

Having a set routine can help your brain switch on and off from studying quicker, helping you to feel more rested. It is also important to change your setting during your studies to help your body realise when it is time to relax and when to focus. If you have an at-home study space, like in our apartments at Gatecrasher, this is a great place to go and do your work.

  1. Make sure to take breaks

While you are away from work, it is important that you allow your mind to have a break. From going to the city centre to have a coffee with a friend to watching your favourite TV show in bed, these are all great ways to give your mind a rest.

It is easy to feel like you have to be studying constantly to get all your assignments done, but in reality, your brain won’t be able to function at its best if you don’t take a break. At West One, all of our accommodation is situated next to many amenities such as cafes, parks and shops to keep you occupied.

  1. Look after your body as well as your mind

Alongside giving your mind a break, it is important to look after your body by remembering to sleep, eat and exercise every day. If you create a successful study routine, it will be possible to fit this all in alongside your library trips.

One of our top tips for making sure you have time for it all is to be organised. Make sure you have enough food for the day if you’re out of the house, as well as everything you need to stay as comfortable.
