Let’s be honest, you’ve probably wasted some of your weekends doom-scrolling on TikTok and bed-rotting, so we’ve made a list of things you can do either with friends or by yourself to have fun while taking a break from socials.
Go for a hike in the Peak District
It’s a popular destination for a reason! With both universities in Sheffield just a short journey away from the beautiful Peak District National Park, this is the perfect way to unwind, enjoy the fresh air and explore a new atmosphere. From landmarks such as Ladybower Reservoir, Chatsworth Park and Kinder Scout to all the smaller trails in between - the Peak District has an adventure for everyone.
If walking isn’t your thing, you can take in historic sites, visit nature reserves and participate in activities like cold water swimming. At The University of Sheffield, the ‘Nips Society’ regularly hosts cold water swimming events in the Peaks which is a great way to safely try a new activity, all in the company of other students.
Have a go at pottery painting
If you’re looking to get your creative juices flowing, trying an activity like pottery painting is a great way to engage your brain. Whether it’s because the weather is terrible and you fancy staying inside, or you simply want to try something new, this is the perfect activity for you to try this weekend.
The best part of pottery painting is you get to take your brand-new creation home with you to savour the memory. From mugs, jugs, plates and figurines, you can choose from a range of different pottery to create whatever you desire. Some of our favourite places to pottery paint throughout Sheffield are Pots to Paint, Fire Arts, and Planet Pot.
Visit your local vintage shops and cafes
Make your activity last the day and take a stroll around some of your favourite shops in Sheffield. One thing we love most about Sheffield is the range of vintage shops and independent cafes scattered throughout the city, which make for a varied and full day out.
Going shopping is a good way to get some exercise in, relax your brain and treat yourself. Head to Division Street, Crookes and Ecclesall Road to find some steals and taste some of the best coffee and sweet treats in town.
